Familiar Aliens—Additional Characters
- Nenmarans:
- Rennil – Sennef & Lissel’s daughter, first born. She is named after her grandmother, Renla, and her great grandmother, Jennil.
- Merref – Sennef & Lissel’s son, second born. He is named after his grandfather, Merrin, and his grandfather, Nennef, the Earth Alien.
- Humans:
- André – It was in André’s yard in Canada that little Rennil landed after her unplanned trip to Earth from Nenmar; he put Rennil on a plane at Montreal for a flight to Denver; later André meets Rennil’s extended family in Penna’s community
- Milton (Milt) Fitzsimmons – The personnel security chief at the military base, and Col Nash’s unauthorized personal mole. He is the “security guy” in Penna, The Alien Earthling. He has graying red hair.
- Allison (Renquist) Pennington – Alan's and Gayle's daughter, who is away at college when Penna first arrives, and whose clothes Gayle gives to Penna to wear. She returns home in Familiar Aliens, and displays outbursts of rage.
- Elizabeth (Liz) Yates – Bill Thompson’s campaign manager for his run for the US Senate, and his chief of staff after his election. Liz eventually takes up permanent residence on Nenmar, as assistant to Nallin, the new sage of Fenmon Village
- Animals (the animals in Familiar Aliens “talk” with one another, and with people):
- Penelope (the pellar rat) – Penelope was “synthesized” by Kaggla, in Penna, the Alien Earthling, from genetic materials from the pellars on Nenmar and a lab rat at the local college where Bill and Marsha Thompson were on the faculty. Penelope is Penna’s pet, and she appears frequently throughout the story; Penelope, through remote commands in a special collar placed on her, gathers the evidence that Barmeth then uses to out Nash’s illegal activities, which throw the Senate election to Bill Thompson.
- Comet (a neutered male domestic cat) – Comet lived in the house with Penna and Ricky; like any cat, he is around when he wants to be and considers it important to him
- Immcannians: Immcann is a planet with people called Immcannians. These people have a slight light blue tint to their skin, which is the result of countless generations drinking the mineral content in the water there. Like, Gatton, Nenmar and Earth, Immcann is along the circuit of the Cosmic Storm, and its people are genetically related to the other planets as a result.
- Ibboff – Renegade spaceship captain, who thinks his ambitions are cut short by the suspension of interplanetary oversight for the mixing of interplanetary peoples by Kaggla’s natural experiment.
- Ellcann – Anthropologist on Ibboff’s spaceship, who manages and monitors the blending of interplanetary peoples. She is very satisfied with her work, and is curious to see the results of Kaggla’s experiment but is not concerned over what its outcome will be. She also counsels Ibboff, and functions as someone he can talk to about his personal concerns so as to avoid his fraternizing with the crew.
- Ivvekk – Revered Immcannian Commissioner of Anthropology, in charge of all oversight of interplanetary mixing of peoples. He is very old and ready to retire. Ibboff is next in line to succeed him. He is resigned to the implications of Kaggla’s experiment (of introducing non-space traveling peoples to each other) if it proves successful.
- Gattonians:
- Garlat – Governor of the 5th (of eleven) regions of Gatton. He is the first approval authority Kaggla must go through to get to the Interstellar Anthropology Commission.
- Thabbla – Supreme Governor of Gatton. It is she who questions both Kaggla and Barmeth the most rigorously and challenges them on every point. Then, she just as strongly advocates their proposal before the Interstellar Anthropology Commission. It is her persuasiveness that gains Kaggla the permission to proceed with openly joining Nenmar and Earth. Unlike Kaggla, who is tall, she is short and slight, but she makes up for it with a ferocity that only the brave oppose.
