Traveling Merchant Groups

At any given time, there is a traveling merchant group within a day's reach of any Nenmaran village.

People readily let the traveling merchant group members rest up in spare rooms in their houses. Some travelers stay in a particular village past the departure time of the group they arrived with, and leave with a subsequent one—it's similar to humans waiting for the next train during rush hour. Some even take a turn with one of the citizen work crews in the village.

The traveling merchant groups benefit the entire Nenmaran population in the following ways:

  • They bring and exchange products from other regions, cities, and villages.
  • They carry news to and from all parts of the inhabited region.
  • They provide a truly global education to all Nenmaran youth, in a safe and reliable way.
  • They offer individuals a readily available and socially accepted way to sample life in other regions, and to move there to live if they so choose.
  • They function as a postal and parcel service for smaller items, and deliver plans for larger items to be constructed locally in other regions.
  • They keep all Nenmarans assured of their basic and shared Nenmaran qualities, much like all humans on Earth share a common humanity.

All of this is done without motorized locomotion or electronic telecommunications.
